Recently, Guangzhou IP Court welcomes its 5th anniversary of founding. As one of the three IP courts nationwide, Guangzhou IP Court shoulders the mission of exploring the judicial reform and maintaining the innovation-driven development.

　　According to statistics, Guangzhou IP Court handled 41,598 cases of various kinds and closed 34,510 of them over the past five years. The total value involved in the cases reached 1.072 billion yuan. 16,913 patent infringement cases were heard, among which 13,771 were closed; 20,092 copyright infringement cases were heard, among which 16,872 were closed; 2409 cases about disputes over trademark and unfair competition were heard, among which 1,986 were closed.

　　In terms of adjudication methods, Guangzhou IP Court promotes the reform and innovation by dividing the complex matters and simple issues.

　　On the work for fast ruling on first-instance cases, the closing cycle for the first batch of first-instance cases under fast ruling is only 52 days, over four months shorter than the time for regular first-instance patent cases.

　　The reform of fast ruling on second-instance cases is continuously deepened. Over the past year of building a fast-ruling team for second-instance cases after the founding of IP court, three judges and five assistant judges handled and closed 7958 cases, with the case-closing cycle at 45 days on average. In addition, Guangzhou IP Court pays attention to the rules of innovation protection. It becomes the first nationwide to identify that the goods’ shape does not necessarily constitute trademark infringement, which legally and properly defines the scope of trademark protection and expands the room for innovation in copyright.

　　Over the past five years, the number of cases about IP disputes related to foreign entities or involving Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan are increasing year after year. Guangzhou IP Court has handled 2,193 cases related to Fortune 500 enterprises, and has gradually become a hotspot for the settlement of global IP disputes.
